Solar can change where a household’s electricity comes from and how future energy costs are managed. Electricity produced on the roof can serve the home before power is purchased from the grid. Producing energy at home can reduce exposure to some utility-rate increases. A compatible battery can store solar energy for evening use, and systems designed for backup may power selected loads during an outage. Limited Routine Maintenance
Solar arrays have no fuel deliveries and few moving parts. Most systems need relatively little regular maintenance beyond monitoring and occasional inspection. Inverters and batteries have their own service life, so their replacement terms should be included in a long-term comparison.

An owned solar system may be attractive to buyers who value lower operating costs, but the effect on a sale varies with market conditions, equipment age, financing, and transfer terms. Leased or financed systems should be reviewed carefully before a home is listed.
